Retro Ceramic Cruet Set – SOLD

Retro cruet set

Retro cruet set

I think this is has to the coolest cruet set I’ve ever been lucky enough to find! I think it probably looks red in the photos, but in reality it’s a nice bright orange, with a brass coloured metal frame. I suspect that the orange has been painted on, as opposed to glazed, which means that the colour won’t be quite as hard wearing, but with something this special you should show a bit of extra care anyway!

A very cool salt, pepper and mustard set in near mint condition!

NB: Mint is closing for the holidays tomorrow and for our final blog post we’re having a “Make Me a Cheeky Offer” sale! Have a look through the ‘Still for Sale‘ items from the 25th November or before and see if there’s anything that you’d be interested in making an offer on. Read tomorrow’s blog post for all the details of how it’ll work……

Cast-Iron Gratin Dish – SOLD

17 Dec

Large gratin dish

Large gratin dish

It’s obviously a day for items that have been around the block a few times! This cast-iron gratin dish has taken a serious beating over the years, but on the plus side the fact that it’s still in one piece shows that it’s obviously made of strong stuff! And it’s a nice big dish – you get gratin dishes in all different sizes, but this is definitely one of the larger ones that I’ve come across. It may not be quite as pretty as it used to be, but that classic yellow and blue enamel finish, and those art deco fan handles, mean that it still has a certain charm to it!

Dimensions: 41cm long (incl. handles) x 26cm wide x 5.5cm deep

Price: R140

Vintage Enamel Dish – SOLD

17 Dec

Vintage enamel dish

Vintage enamel dish

To use pretty basic language, I’d say that this enamel dish is pretty poked, but it’s such a charming dish that I just couldn’t resist buying it! Plus even though the enamel is badly chipped in loads of places, in theory it’s still functional piece as there are no actual holes in the enamel. That being said I’m not really sure what you’d use it for? I suppose if you’re brave enough you could use it to serve up a casserole, or something simple like plain rice? I’ll leave it up to the imagination of whoever lands up buying it! I do hope that somebody takes it home home though, because for all its fault I still think it’s a great piece!

Dimensions: 21cm in diameter x 13cm tall (with lid on)

Price: R130

Note: Mint puts up three new items every weekday. The first post goes up at 07h00, the second at 08h00 and the third at 08h30. You can subscribe to our daily email which goes out at around 09h00 by clicking on the pink envelope on the right hand side of the blog (more…)

Alfred Meakin Gravy Boat – SOLD

17 Dec

Alfred Meakin gravy boat

Alfred Meakin gravy boat

I’m not sure how well it comes across in the photos, but this Alfred Meakin gravy boat is the most delightful yellow! And I love the shape of that handle! Sadly there are a few marks on the inside of the gravy boat, and the underside is also quite stained, but fortunately you won’t really notice that, and the marks on the inside aren’t terribly obvious and should be mostly covered when it’s fill of deliciously rich gravy for your Christmas gammon!

Dimensions: Gravy boat  – 21cm long x 10cm wide x 9cm tall; Gravy dish – 21.5cm long x 15cm wide

Price: R130

Vintage Enamel Jug – SOLD

15 Dec

Large vintage enamel jug

Large vintage enamel jug

I know these large enamel jugs aren’t that practical now that we have indoor plumbing, but they’re still so beautiful, and also quite hard to come by! I do see them for same from time to time, but generally dealers are asking upwards of R500 for a jug, which is a bit mad – although they are so very lovely, so perhaps they’re worth it! This jug has obviously taken  bit of a beating over the years, but it would still be functional as a vase (the jug doesn’t leak at all), although you’d need one serious bunch of flowers to fill it!

A very pretty piece of vintage enamelware that’s just calling out for a nice big bunch of gladioli!

Dimensions: 29cm tall x 16cm in diameter

Price: R290

Musical Porcelain Geisha – SOLD

15 Dec

Musical porcelain geisha

Musical porcelain geisha

How pretty is this Japanese Otagiri musical geisha? I’ve sold a few of these figurines before, but I think this version is the most attractive of them all! The difference is in the base, which is normally plain white, whereas here her mount is black complemented by a pale blue-grey glaze – it’s somehow a touch more classy! And in addition to her good looks, she also works perfectly well – click here to watch a video of our geisha in action.

Dimensions: 21cm tall x 9.5cm in diameter (at her widest)

Price: R250
