Vintage Chinese teapot

Vintage Japanese teapot

At first glance I would have thought that this vintage teapot was Chinese (not that I know that much about oriental ceramics!), but after a bit of research it seems that this ‘Phoenix Ware’ teapot is in fact Japanese, and was produced by world-famous porcelain producers, Noritake. I have to say it’s quite different to any Noritake that I’ve seen before – while it’s very delicate, it’s not quite as refined as Noritake pieces tend to be, although I think it has a fair bit of age to it which might explain the difference. The teapot had a set of matching teacups that sadly I couldn’t afford – the teacups were very fine (and quite beautiful!), as is the teapot with its lovely bamboo handle and wonderful phoenix pattern. It also has a removable tea strainer, so you can  choose to use it with leaves or bags. Sadly the strainer’s been damaged, but the repair is barely noticeable, although it should act as a warning to others – this is a fragile piece to be treated with respect!

A wonderful gift for any tea lovers out there – how much more civilised to drink your tea from this delightful teapot than from a plain old mug!
