Vintage Fabric Throw – SOLD

29 Apr

Vintage fabric throw

Vintage fabric throw

How sweet is this vintage throw? It’s obviously too small for my queen-size bed, but I think it would work well on a single bed, possibly in a little girl’s room? The day that I bought it I bumped into Irene from Lulu’s, and she seemed to think that it was a tablecloth, but personally I think that the loosely woven fabric would work better in the bedroom – even if that’s not what it was originally meant for!

A very sweet decorative throw that will add just a touch of extra warmth on these nippy autumn nights!

Crocheted Bedspread – SOLD

The quality of this crocheted bedspread is outstanding! Often the cotton on these vintage throws is quite yellow from age, whereas with the exception of one very minor stain, this throw is nice and crisp – I think it maybe has something to do with the quality of the cotton that they used? The design is also quite intricate – I look at all these blankets and bedspreads and wonder how many hours it must have taken to make them!

A beautiful example that would look so lovely on a double or three-quarter bed (it’s a bit too small for my queen). You could also use it as an overlay if you have a nice long dining room table.

Vintage Crocheted Blanket – SOLD

Vintage crocheted blanket

Don’t worry, I haven’t lost my marbles, this isn’t the same blanket that we had for sale last week! It was made by the same person and is obviously very similar in design – goodness knows how they had the patience to make two of them – but isn’t in quite as good a condition. Judging by the few stray dog hairs that we found (don’t worry, we’ve given it a good wash*) I think the little terrier in the house had a bit of a soft spot for this blankie – who wouldn’t! But that’s not the main issue – the real difference is in the quality of the wool that they used. Some of the wool on this blanket has gone quite fluffy, while the other blanket was nice and smooth – I suspect that that’s as result of a more cotton-rich (and expensive) wool being used for the first blanket. The colours also aren’t quite as strong, but its’ still a very cool blanket that would look great on a 3/4 (possibly double) bed – it fits the width of my queen bed, but isn’t quite long enough.

A very striking blanket that will add a pop of colour to your bedroom.

*Note: We have washed the blanket, but some of the dog hairs remain. I’m certain that they’ll come off over time as you use the blanket – unless you have your own pup, in which case it will only get worse!

Vintage Crocheted Blanket – SOLD

Vintage crocheted blanket

This is possibly one of the most lovely crocheted blankets that I’ve ever seen – and I’ve seen some pretty fantastic blankets over the years! Not only did the lady who made this have a great eye for colour, but she was a master craftsman with a very neat stitch and excellent taste in wool – after all these years the blanket is still nice and soft! Some of the wool has gone a bit fluffy from use (but not crazy fluffy!), and at some point the blanket must have developed a hole or two because somebody’s done a pretty shoddy patch job in a few spots, but luckily it’s large enough that you don’t really notice the wear.

An excellent quality crocheted blanket that would look wonderful on the end of a queen-sized bed.

Striped crocheted blanket

Striped crocheted blanket

With summer fast approaching it seems like the wrong time to be advertising a crocheted blanket, but to my mind it’s just right! I use our blankets all year round! In winter they lie on top of our bed for extra warmth, and in summer they hide underneath the quilt, but on top of the flat sheet so that we can pull the quilt back and just sleep with the blanket and sheet – the system really does work well! But a stylish crocheted blanket like this one (I just love those earthy colours!) would also work really well slung on the back of a couch. I think it’s always handy to have a blanket ready and waiting for some concentrated telly watching, but if its going to be on display, it needs to be attractive – just like this one!

Crocheted Bedspread – SOLD

Crocheted bedspread

Crocheted bedspread

I bought this crocheted bedspread because of the pink detail – it’s not something that I’ve seen before, and I think it looks so lovely! It’s quite worn though, which I’m not sure shows up in the pictures at all. There’s no actual damage, but he cotton has a certain stiffness to it that comes with age, and the colours have definitely faded from when the bedspread was first made. That being said it’s still very attractive and would look great on a 3/4 bed or spread length-wise across a queen or king-sized bed (it would be too wide for a double).
