Villeroy and Boch Casserole Dish – SOLD

Retro Villeroy & Boch casserole dish

Retro Villeroy & Boch casserole dish

The design of this retro Villeroy & Boch casserole dish really appeals to me! I love the brightly coloured stylised veggies, and how they stand out against the crisp white ceramic body. The handle on the lid sits at an interesting angle, which I assume is on purpose – V&B produce premium quality porcelain ware, so I can’t see them letting something out of their factory that is so obviously squiff! And in addition to being so dashingly handsome I’m pretty sure that this dish can go in the oven – so good looking and practical. What more could you ask for?!

Dimensions: 30cm long x 19cm wide x 15cm tall (with lid on)

Price: R220

Vintage Grindley Casserole Dishes – SOLD

12 May

Pair of vintage Grindley 'Cream Petal' casserole dishes

Pair of vintage Grindley ‘Cream Petal’ casserole dishes

These beautiful Grindley casserole dishes match the equally lovely platter that we featured last week. They’re probably also in pretty much the same nick, with some wear to the gold trim and small areas where the yellow glaze is wearing thin, but on the whole they’re not doing too badly for their years. I love the soft yellow glaze (although it actually looks to be painted on, rather than glazed?) and the detailed handles and lid.

A very sweet pair o veggie dishes that will add a soft touch to the decor at your next dinner party.

Dimensions: Each dish measures 11cm tall (with lid on) x 23cm in diameter

Price: R160 each

Midwinter Casserole Dishes – SOLD

Pair of Midwinter casserole dishes

Pair of Midwinter casserole dishes

I’m always delighted to find any Midwinter pieces, and even happier when they’re this wonderful Stylecraft shape – I think it’s probably one of the coolest designs when it comes to tableware! While the pattern might be a bit dated (‘Oranges & Lemons’ was first produced in 1962), the shape of the bowls could have been designed yesterday, so any feeling of being old fashioned just vanishes, well for me at least! There’s some very minor wear to the rims of the bowls and to the lids, but overall they’re in very good condition.

A great example of why retro design is so popular today – functional, but very attractive pieces that were designed to last.

Dimensions: Each dish measures 10cm tall (with lid on) x 22cm in diameter

Price: R170 each

Meakin Vegetable Dish – SOLD

29 Apr

Alfred Meakin 'Primrose' vegetable dish

Alfred Meakin ‘Primrose’ vegetable dish

I don’t think that I’ll ever tire of this beautiful pastel yellow glaze that’s so reminiscent of the ’50s and ’60s! As is the shape of this dish – isn’t it so lovely? There’re some light marks on the rim of the lid, and on the underside of the dish, but luckily the wear is mostly hidden from sight.

A very fashionable dish that will look wonderful sitting on your dining room table filled with some delicious honey-glazed carrots!

Dimensions: 20cm in diameter x 13cm tall (with lid on)

Wedgwood Vegetable Dish – SOLD

28 Apr

Wedgwood vegetable dish

Wedgwood vegetable dish

I don’t think that this Wedgwood vegetable tureen has any great age to it (although the design does look very ’60s?), but that doesn’t make it any less collectible! The quality of Wedgwood china means that it’s always going to fetch high prices – this Mayfield veggie dish is currently for sale online for more than £70 (that’s nearly R1400!). Madness! But it is a very attractive dish, and of course I love the shape, plus it’s in mint condition – not a mark on it it!

NB: Please pay attention to the dimensions below – this dish is a bit smaller than your average casserole dish.

Dimensions: 24cm long x 20cm wide x 9cm tall (with lid on)

Price: R290

Midwinter Casserole Dishes – SOLD

Midwinter 'Riverside' casserole dishes

Midwinter ‘Riverside’ casserole dishes

Ooh, I just love the shape of these ‘Stylecraft’ casserole dishes – seriously, the designers at Midwinter really did know what they were doing! I bought this pair (which are in near mint condition!) from the lovely Helen, who also sold me the rest of Midwinter Riverside dinner service that we featured recently. But these dishes were an extra surprise – Helen had forgotten about them when I came to see the service, so she emailed me afterwards to ask me if I might be interested in the matching casserole dishes – I did a little dance, of course the answer was ‘yes’! This design of casserole dish is probably my very favourite – and I think it’s easy to see why! Clever, clever Midwinter folk!

Dimensions: Each dish measures 10cm tall (with lid on) x 22cm in diameter
