Hendlers Whistling Kettle – SOLD

26 Mar

Hendler's whistling kettle

Hendler’s whistling kettle

My obsession with kettles has got so bad that I now have a collection of retro kettles that don’t work! I just can’t seem to help myself – they’re so beautiful! I’ve decided that instead of tossing them I’m going to build a shelf and have a mini kettle museum! It’ll look so handsome! Luckily though, this retro Hendlers kettle is in perfect working order! The black cord has been replaced at some point with a more modern white one, and there’s some wear to the inside of the kettle, but other than that it’s not in bad nick at all. I love the raised floral design and the fact that it’s a whistling kettle is an added bonus!

Dimensions: 22cm tall x 21cm in diameter

Price: R220

German Casserole Dish – SOLD

17 Mar

Thomas casserole dish

Thomas casserole dish

The style of this German Thomas casserole dish is very simple, but also quite beautiful! Thomas were originally part of Porzellanfabrik Jaeger, Thomas & Co, a porcelain factory that first opened its doors in 1898. In 1906 Thomas became a subsidiary of Rosenthal, and in 1971 the factory closed its doors, although they continued to manufacture under the Thomas name until  2004 when Rosenthal finally had the trademark registrations erased. Because of this it’s difficult to tell when this dish dates from, but looking at the maker’s mark and the design of the dish, I’d say it’s a newer piece, possibly dating to the late ’70s or early ’80s.

Regardless of its age, it’s a very attractive and good quality casserole dish in excellent condition!

Dimensions: 20cm in diameter x 10cm tall (with lid on)

Price: R140

Midwinter Casserole Dish – SOLD

5 Mar

Midwinter 'Mayfield' casserole dish

Midwinter ‘Mayfield’ casserole dish

This is from the same 1960s Midwinter dinner service as the plates and bowls that we featured earlier this week. It’s also in great nick for its years, with the only real wear being to the silver rim that runs around the circumference of the bowl. The colours are quite conservative, but again the pattern is so lovely, and I really like the simplicity of the shape.

An attractive dish that would be great for serving veggies.

Dimensions: 22.5cm in diameter x 12cm tall (with lid on)

Price: R150

Noritake Casserole Dish – SOLD

20 Jan

Noritake Progression China casserole dish

Noritake Progression China casserole dish

As with nearly all of the Noritake that I find, this casserole dish is in near perfect condition. I think that it may have something to do with the quality of the materials that they use, but Noritake seems to age really well – aside from some minor discolouration around the rim of the dish, there really are very few signs of wear and tear.

A fantastic quality and super stylish dish that can go straight from the oven to your dining room table.

Dimensions: 22cm in diameter x 13cm tall (with lid on)

Price: R170

Art Deco Casserole Dishes – SOLD

24 Nov

Art deco Crown Devon casserole dishes

Art deco Crown Devon casserole dishes

When I first started collecting vintage pieces many years ago, art deco was probably my favourite of all the styles, but over the years I’ve come to like a slightly cleaner (and perhaps harder) look. Certain art deco pieces though, still get me very excited, and the handles on this pair of 1930s Crown Devon casserole dishes are a perfect example of why I still love this iconic style so much! They really are so striking! And the hand-painted flowers, which almost sit in contradiction to the strong angles of the lids and handles, are just as beautiful!

Note: Both dishes are in pretty good nick for their age, but there is some minor discolouration to the glaze on the one dish, and the paintwork is slightly scratched in places on both of the casserole dishes.

Dimensions: Each dish measures 19.5cm in diameter x 14cm tall (with lids on)

Price: R160 each

Pair of Alfred Clough Casserole Dishes – SOLD

7 Nov

Pair of Alfred Clough casserole dishes

Pair of Alfred Clough casserole dishes

It’s easy to see what quality items this pair of 1960s Alfred Clough casserole dishes are. For starters they’re in near mint condition, which in itself is a sign of good china, then there are the small details, like the underside of the handles being silver-gilded, and the silver that runs around the rim of the dishes. It’s the attention to detail (and that really beautiful pattern!) that makes this a very special pair of serving dishes!

Dimensions: Each dish measures 10cm tall (with lid on) x 20cm in diameter

Price: R150 each/R280 for the pair
