Corning Ware Bread Pan – SOLD

17 Nov

Corning Ware bread pan

Corning Ware bread pan

In all my years of hunting I think this is only the second time that I’ve come across one of these Corning Ware loaf pans, so I have to presume there aren’t too many of them out there! This version is part of the ‘Spice of Life’ series, with that great ’70s style design (the pattern was first introduced in 1972). There are a few scratches on the handles, but otherwise this dish is in great condition – because Corning Ware is made from such a tough material, their dishes tend to wear very well, even after years of use!

Dimensions: 27cm long x 13.5cm wide x 8.5cm deep

Price: R150

Note: Mint puts up three new items every weekday. The first post goes up at 07h00, the second at 08h00 and the third at 08h30. You can subscribe to our daily email which goes out at around 09h00 by clicking on the pink envelope on the right hand side of the blog (more…)

Corning Ware Saucemaker – SOLD

13 Nov

Corning Ware Saucemaker with handle

Corning Ware Saucemaker with handle

Sadly this Corning Ware Saucemaker doesn’t have its lid, but it does have a handle which is a big plus! And in truth very few of these Saucemakers still have their lids, so its not that surprising that it’s missing! I’ve always loved the shape of this ‘pot’, which is quite different to your usual Corning Ware dishes, and it’s such a clever Corning Ware design that you can remove the handle and use it on other Corning Ware pieces.

A great piece of cookware in good condition – bar a few scratches here and there this saucemaker’s nice and clean.

Dimensions: 10cm tall x 18cm in diameter (excl. handle)

Price: R180

Mint puts up four new items every weekday. The first post goes up at 07h00, the second at 08h00 and the third and fourth at 08h30. You can subscribe to our daily email which goes out at around 09h00 by clicking on the pink envelope on the right hand side of the blog (more…)

Small Enamel Oven Dish – SOLD

9 Nov

Small powder-blue enamel oven dish

Small powder-blue enamel oven dish

It’s not the largest oven dish, or the smartest, but it has loads of character, and is the most gentle duck-egg blue. And I love the old-school style with those skinny handles that tuck neatly away. Obviously there’s a fair bit of wear & tear, but it’s good enough nick to still be functional.

A great dish for a small lasagne or potato bake – whatever you choose to cook, I know that your food will look that much more appealing served in this vintage oven dish.

Dimensions: 31cm long x 24.5cm wide x 6cm deep

Price: R130

Cast-Iron Griddle – SOLD

5 Nov

Cast-iron griddle

Cast-iron griddle

Years ago I bought a pair of these cast-iron griddles and because of the pattern on the underside and the fact that there were two of them (I thought that you put them one on top of the other) I assumed that they were for making waffles, but sadly they’re not! I can’t remember where, but sometime over the past few years I’ve seen one for sale online, and it turns out that they’re not meant to be sold in pairs and they’re not for making waffles, but are instead grills. The idea is that you put the griddle straight on top of the stove, cook your meat and the fat runs off into the little ‘bowl’ at the end of pan. There’s a fair amount of wear and tear to this griddle (see pics under ‘more’), but it’s still completely functional, and in my opinion quite beautiful!

Dimensions: 28.5cm long (incl. handles) x 25cm wide x 2cm deep

Price: R230

Corning Ware Skillet – SOLD

4 Nov

Corning Ware skillet

Corning Ware skillet

This Corning Ware skillet is identical to the one that we featured last week, it’s just in slightly worse nick. The most obvious wear is to the detachable handle where the metal has corroded slightly. The underside of the skillet is also quite scratched and there are one or two marks along the rim, but I think the wear is probably commensurate with its age, and it’s still a clean looking piece of cookware. Plus at the end of the day beggars can’t be choosers – this is only the second Corning Ware skillet that I’ve ever seen, so there was no way I was going to turn it down!

Dimensions: 26cm in diameter x 5cm deep; 45cm long (incl. handle)

Price: R240

Villeroy and Boch Baking Dish – SOLD

28 Oct

Villeroy & Boch baking dish

Villeroy & Boch baking dish

I think it probably goes without saying that I love the bright yellow glaze on the inside of this Villeroy & Boch baking dish! Bizarrely though, I also quite like the slightly kitsch textured black glaze on the outside of the dish – not only does it contrast beautifully with the yellow, but I think the unusual texture makes for an interesting feature. The dish appears to be in excellent condition for its years – I’m not sure exactly when it was made, but V&B made a pattern called ‘Biarritz’ in the 1950s that had the identical black & yellow colour combo, so it could well be from the same period.

Dimensions: 36cm long x 21cm wide x 5cm deep

P.S. These V&B baking dishes normally sell for around $40 – with our rather sad exchange rate that works out to about R500!

Price: R200
