Vintage Enamel Dish – SOLD

17 Dec

Vintage enamel dish

Vintage enamel dish

To use pretty basic language, I’d say that this enamel dish is pretty poked, but it’s such a charming dish that I just couldn’t resist buying it! Plus even though the enamel is badly chipped in loads of places, in theory it’s still functional piece as there are no actual holes in the enamel. That being said I’m not really sure what you’d use it for? I suppose if you’re brave enough you could use it to serve up a casserole, or something simple like plain rice? I’ll leave it up to the imagination of whoever lands up buying it! I do hope that somebody takes it home home though, because for all its fault I still think it’s a great piece!

Dimensions: 21cm in diameter x 13cm tall (with lid on)

Vintage Enamel Jug – SOLD

15 Dec

Large vintage enamel jug

Large vintage enamel jug

I know these large enamel jugs aren’t that practical now that we have indoor plumbing, but they’re still so beautiful, and also quite hard to come by! I do see them for same from time to time, but generally dealers are asking upwards of R500 for a jug, which is a bit mad – although they are so very lovely, so perhaps they’re worth it! This jug has obviously taken  bit of a beating over the years, but it would still be functional as a vase (the jug doesn’t leak at all), although you’d need one serious bunch of flowers to fill it!

A very pretty piece of vintage enamelware that’s just calling out for a nice big bunch of gladioli!

Dimensions: 29cm tall x 16cm in diameter

Price: R290

Large Enamel Chargers – SOLD

11 Dec

Pair of large enamel chargers

Pair of large enamel chargers

These enamel chargers are a wee bit tinny (not as heavy an enamel as I’d like them to be), but what they lack in quality they more than make up for in size – they really are quite large! In fact I’m not sure that I’ve had an enamel tray this big before, definitely not one the size of the largest of this pair. As with most enamel, there are a few chips to the paintwork, but the wear just adds character to the trays.

A great pair to hang on your kitchen wall, or to display glasses on at your next pool party!

Dimensions: Extra large enamel charger – 50cm in diameter x 4cm deep; Large enamel charger – 45cm in diameter x 4cm deep

Collection of Enamel Bowls – SOLD

9 Dec

Collection of enamel bowls

Collection of enamel bowls

This collection of small enamel bowls are pretty tinny, but they’re also quite lovely! They’re definitely of the cheap and cheerful variety – nothing like the sturdy vintage Polish enamelware – but they’re much cheaper, and still completely functional. Plus I love the pattern and the colours – this type of naive print is probably my favourite style of enamelware decoration. As pretty ss the floral designs are, I think I prefer these more geometric designs.

Dimensions: Large bowl – 21cm in diameter x 8cm tall; Medium bowls – 19cm in diameter x 7cm tall; Small bowls – 17cm in diameter x 6cm tall

Price: R160 for the set of five bowls

Small Enamel Canister – SOLD

8 Dec

Small Polish enamel canister

Small Polish enamel canister

I love these old pieces of Polish enamelware! They’re always such great colours, and the quality’s just that much better than most enamelware you see for sale. This little red canister has a few chips here and there, but overall it’s in decent nick – it’s definitely clean enough to still be functional. I’m not quite sure what you’d use it for though – it’s too big to be a sugar bowl, but maybe you could use it as a place to store your sugar? It’s also about the same size as an enamel billy can that I use for all my fruit and veggie cuttings, so you could use it for that – as a place to throw your organic waste before it goes to the compost heap; you’d just have to empty it fairly regularly as it’s not that big.

Whatever you choose to use it for, I’m sure that you’ll be very happy – this is a great little canister that will add a bit of colour to your kitchen decor.

Dimensions: 13cm tall x 12cm in diameter

Vintage Enamel Bowls – SOLD

27 Nov

Vintage enamel bowls

Vintage enamel bowls

There’s something really nice about this set of enamel bowls – they’re a bit more solid than a lot of the enamelware you see today, and I really like the shapes, which are quite unusual. All of the bowls have some very naive engraving, presumably someone’s way of labelling their bowls so that no one nicked them! The medium-sized green bowl has a bit of damage, and all of the bowls show signs of wear, but the bowls are definitely still functional, even the green bowl.

A lovely set of bowls that should make any collectors of enamelware pretty darn happy!

Dimensions: Large bowl – 10cm tall x 20.5cm in diameter; Medium bowl – 8.5cm tall x 16.5cm in diameter; Small bowl – 8.5cm tall x 12.5cm in diameter

Price: R180 for the set of three bowls
