Small Enamel Saucepans – SOLD

26 Nov

Small enamel saucepans

Small enamel saucepans

These small enamel saucepans are similar to the mixing bowls that we featured earlier in that I’d expect to see a ‘Made in Poland’ stamp on their bases, not ‘Hong Kong’. They’re almost identical to the Polish versions, although perhaps the enamel’s not quite as thick? They’re the same great colours though, with the identical design.

I’m not exactly the world’s best baker, but I’ve always loved these wee saucepans – I can so see someone making a delicious caramel sauce to dribble over a just-out-the-oven chocolate brownie!

Dimensions: Large saucepan – 8cm tall x 7cm in diameter (21.5cm long incl. handle); Medium saucepan – 7.5cm tall x 6.5cm in diameter (19cm long incl. handle); Small saucepan – 6cm tall x 5.5cm in diameter (17.5cm long incl. handle)

Price: R190 for the set

Enamel Roasting Dish – SOLD

18 Nov

Enamel roasting dish

Enamel roasting dish

Unbelievably the original label was still on this enamel roasting dish when I bought it! Someone had cooked with it with the label still on, but as a result of the heat from the oven the label was in rather a sorry state! I could still make out the sales pitch though (“The world’s greatest roaster”) and the maker’s name, Federal Enamel and Stamping Co. Unfortunately I haven’t had time to research it properly, but from the brief bit of info that I did read it seems that the factory closed its doors in 1952, so presumably this roaster was made before then. There are quite a few dings to the white enamel lid, but the inside of the dish is pretty clean for its years – definitely clean enough to carry on using!

A nice big roasting dish just in time for Christmas dinner!

Dimensions: 45cm long x 31cm wide x 20cm tall (with lid on)

Price: R260

Vintage Enamelware – SOLD

12 Nov

Vintage enamel enema cans

Vintage enamel enema cans

I just couldn’t bring myself to call these vintage enamel cans by their proper name – enema cans! But please don’t be put off, for starters I’m fairly confident that they haven’t been used in many, many years, plus we’ve given them a really good scrub! And while their original purpose may not be that appetising I think that they’d make great planters – they have built-in hooks so can easily be hung on a garden wall, and the little ‘spouts’ mean that there’d be good drainage for your plants. And how great would they look all hung together with some fleshy succulents planted in them!

Dimensions: Large enamel can – 22cm tall x 13cm in diameter; Small enamel cans – approx. 19cm tall x 10cm in diameter

Price: Large enamel can – R150; Small enamel cans- R120 each

Small Enamel Oven Dish – SOLD

9 Nov

Small powder-blue enamel oven dish

Small powder-blue enamel oven dish

It’s not the largest oven dish, or the smartest, but it has loads of character, and is the most gentle duck-egg blue. And I love the old-school style with those skinny handles that tuck neatly away. Obviously there’s a fair bit of wear & tear, but it’s good enough nick to still be functional.

A great dish for a small lasagne or potato bake – whatever you choose to cook, I know that your food will look that much more appealing served in this vintage oven dish.

Dimensions: 31cm long x 24.5cm wide x 6cm deep

Price: R130

Enamel Coffee Percolator – SOLD

4 Nov

Vintage enamel coffee percolator

Vintage enamel coffee percolator

Despite being pretty clean on the outside, the inside of this enamel coffee percolator gives away the fact that it’s seen some serious use over the years! The white enamel is stained yellow in places, and it’s lost its sheen so won’t be as easy to clean as it should be. There’s also a ding on the base, and the percolator basket is a bit wonky (although still functional). But it’s a beautiful piece of enamelware, and not something that you see everyday, so despite its many flaws I still think that it’s a great piece. It may not be right for your home (although I’d be more than happy to have it sitting on my stove-top), but it could make a very stylish camping coffee pot!

P.S. A similar enamel percolator is for sale online for $48 (R600)

Dimensions: 18cm tall x 13cm in diameter

Price: R240

Enamel Fridge Tray – SOLD

28 Oct

Vintage enamel fridge tray

Vintage enamel fridge tray

I’m always happy to find these old enamel fridge trays! I love the way they look, how solidly made they are (especially compared to our rather rubbish plastic versions that we have today!) and the possibilities that they offer! I generally suggest using them to organise your pantry, or as planters for herbs, but a clever Mint customer once suggested using them to sterilise baby’s bottles (thanks Pete!) – I wonder what other uses people have come up with?

Dimensions: 35.5cm long x 25cm wide x 9cm deep

Price: R135
