Vintage Kid’s Print – SOLD

10 Sep

Vintage children's print: 'Trips in a Balloon' by Klaus Schottler

Vintage children’s print: ‘Trips in a Balloon’ by Klaus Schottler

How delightful is this vintage print, ‘Trips in a Balloon’ by Klaus Schottler! The artist isn’t well known, and the print itself is a bit worn, but it’s such a wonderful composition – can’t you just see it hanging in a little boy or girl’s bedroom? I suspect that the print is probably more or less the same age as the original painting, so a bit of wear’s to be expected, and the damage isn’t bad enough that you notice it immediately, or that it detracts from the print.

A beautifully quirky print that would look wonderful in a nursery or toddler’s bedroom.

Dimensions: 33cm long x 25cm wide x 1.5cm deep

Price: R120

Baby Bottle Warmer and Funnel – SOLD

9 Sep

Vintage baby bottle warmer & strainer funnel

Vintage baby bottle warmer & strainer funnel

The box for this German ‘baby-service’ is a bit worse for wear, but I love the artwork so thought that it was worth saving – plus I suppose it shows that whoever used to own this vintage bottle warmer did a pretty good job of looking after it (it even has the original instruction leaflet tucked away inside!). And how great that I bought it together with the Binky’s baby strainer funnel! I’m not sure that the funnel’s quite as practical as the bottle warmer (I had a look at the modern bottle warmers and the principle seems pretty much the same), but I suppose funnels are always handy, plus it’s great that it’s in its original packaging.

A sweet pair that would make a delightful and unusual gift for the next baby shower you go to!

Dimensions: Bottle warmer – 14cm tall x 13.5cm in diameter (at its widest); Funnel – 7cm tall x 7cm in diameter (at its widest)

Price: Bottle warmer – R140; Funnel – R50

Vintage SAA Money Box – SOLD

2 Sep

Vintage SAA money box

Vintage SAA money box

This has to be one of the coolest money boxes I’ve ever seen! I love the “Save the Fare for the Holiday By Air” printed on the top of the little suitcase – so clever! And the winged springbok on the front reminds me of going to the airport when I was a kid – that was a great logo! The suitcase, which is more navy than the black it appears in the photos, is made of a hard plastic and over the years the plastic has picked up a few scratches, but nothing too serious. There’s no real damage per se, and most importantly the money box still has the little piece of plastic that locks the money box, so it’s completely functional.

A great bit of South African history and a really fun little money box!

Dimensions: 9cm tall x 15.5cm wide x 6cm deep

Price: R220

Vintage Scrabble Set – SOLD

31 Jul

Vintage Scrabble set

Vintage Scrabble set

The box that holds this vintage Scrabble set is a bit worse for wear – there’s an old price (sadly not what I paid!) and someone’s name written on the box, plus loads of stains, but the Scrabble set itself is in better nick than you normally see, and I suppose that’s what counts the most! All of the wooden letters are present and accounted for, as are the four wooden stands, and the playing board. It’s generally the Scrabble boards that are in the worst nick, but this board’s nice and clean!

A great game to keep you entertained – and frustrated! You never pick the right letters do you?

Price: R180

Vintage Hohner Harmonica – SOLD

2 Jul

Hohner Comet harmonica

Hohner Comet harmonica

In days gone by the harmonica might not have been the coolest musical instrument to play, but not so any more! Bar perhaps the ukulele, you don’t get more hipster than the harmonica! And if you’re going to buy a harmonica, then Hohner’s the name to buy. The ‘Comet’ is one of their crazier models with it’s mad retro shape and gold and red finish. Originally desigend in the ’50s you can still buy the Comet today – it still comes in the crazy gold, but the shape’s changed slightly over the years. These harmonica’s sell for a pretty penny, with the new model going for around R1200 and vintage versions selling for as much as R2000!

Note: Overall the instrument’s in good nick, but it does have quite a few light scratches. I’ve tried to photograph the wear and tear, but I don’t think that it’s that visible in the photos.

Dimensions: 16cm long x 7cm wide x 2cm deep

Price: R350

Vintage German Roulette Set – SOLD

13 Apr

Vintage German roulette set

Vintage German roulette set

I’ve sold a few of these vintage roulette sets over the years, but this is far and away the coolest of them all! When my father spotted it, I had to literally pry it from his hands (I’m a horrid daughter!). Aside from the fact that it’s a boxed set, which is always nice, the roulette wheel’s a really nice quality and is a fair bit larger than most of the sets that I’ve seen – it’s definitely going to be a more realistic experience, especially with the croupier’s stick, which although a bit wobbly, should still be fun to use!

Note: The box has some wear (see pics under ‘more’) and can be difficult to open – you have to push the back of the box in a bit otherwise it sticks.

Dimensions: Box measures 42cm long x 30cm wide x 8cm deep; Wheel measures 26cm in diameter

Price: R320
