Small Novelty Planter – SOLD

25 Nov

Small ceramic whale planter

Small ceramic whale planter

I can’t tell you how much I love this crazy little whale planter!! I think he’s just wonderful! I’m not sure why, but for some reason I think he may have been made in Japan – vintage Japanese design is either super sleek or super quirky, and obviously this falls into the latter. There’s some minor damage to the glaze, and he’s not that large, but I still love him desperately and hope that somebody out there will give him a good home.

Dimensions: 25cm long x 9cm wide x 13cm tall

Price: R145

Vintage Enamelware – SOLD

12 Nov

Vintage enamel enema cans

Vintage enamel enema cans

I just couldn’t bring myself to call these vintage enamel cans by their proper name – enema cans! But please don’t be put off, for starters I’m fairly confident that they haven’t been used in many, many years, plus we’ve given them a really good scrub! And while their original purpose may not be that appetising I think that they’d make great planters – they have built-in hooks so can easily be hung on a garden wall, and the little ‘spouts’ mean that there’d be good drainage for your plants. And how great would they look all hung together with some fleshy succulents planted in them!

Dimensions: Large enamel can – 22cm tall x 13cm in diameter; Small enamel cans – approx. 19cm tall x 10cm in diameter

Price: Large enamel can – R150; Small enamel cans- R120 each

Small Copper Watering Can – SOLD

23 Sep

Small copper watering can

Small copper watering can

I’ve definitely got a soft spot for these vintage watering cans! They come in such a massive variety of shapes and designs, with some of them obviously being better made than others. This aladdin-style version is probably one of the nicer-made watering cans that I’ve seen, with its beaten copper look and over-the-top spout and handle. As with most of these old watering cans (recently I’ve been told that they’re actually for orchids?), there’s some wear & tear, but it still functions perfectly well, and to mind is still quite beautiful to look at!

Dimensions:  13cm tall (incl. handle) x 12.5cm in diameter (at its widest) x 34cm long (spout to handle)

Price: R140

Copper Jug and Watering Can – SOLD

17 Sep

Copper watering can & jug

Copper watering can & jug

This has to be the nicest copper watering can that I’ve ever had the fortune to come across! The lady I bought it from seemed to think that it was for watering orchids, and she was very proud of the Richard Mead signature on the base – I’d never heard of him before, but apparently he’s quite the name when it comes to copper! I can see why with designs like this – isn’t it just beautiful? Because of its age, and I suppose because it was always in contact with water, it has quite a few blemishes, but nothing that detracts form its beauty! The jug doesn’t have a stamp, but is also quite beautifully made and is in slightly better nick than the watering can.

A wonderful pair that will not only look great sitting on your kitchen windowsill, but will also come in handy when it’s time to water your herbs or African Violets.

Dimensions: Watering can – 13cm tall x 11cm in diameter (at its widest) x 38cm long (spout to handle); Small copper jug – 13cm tall x 8.5cm in diameter (at its widest)

Price: Watering can – R220; Small copper jug – R95

Retro Patio Chair Cushions – SOLD

1 Sep

Original retro patio cushion

Original retro patio cushion

How cool are these cushions?! I think this is probably the first time I’ve bought loose cushions, but it’s probably also the first time I’ve come across a set of retro cushions that look like they’ve barely been used! How crazy is that pattern? I L-O-V-E it!! And in addition to being super good looking, they’re also very practical – I love these old wire garden sets, but they’re really not that comfortable – a little padding under the bum makes all the difference!

Dimensions: 45cm long x 42cm wide x 5cm deep

Price: R340 for the set of four (R85 a cushion)

Italian Pineapple Planter – SOLD

27 Aug

Italian ceramic planter

Italian ceramic planter

I’m afraid I don’t know anything about this Italian ceramic planter – when I first looked at it I thought that it was probably modern, but the Italian maker’s mark, the wear to the rim, and the stains on the inside make me think that it’s probably got a bit of age to it. Whatever its history it’s a nice size planter, and I love the rather quirky pineapple pattern! As I said there are a few minor chips along the rim of the planter, but I really don’t think the wear will be noticeable once you’ve got a nice fleshy plant in it. I’ve used an orchid because the rest of my plants are still recovering from the shock of the move to Jozi, but I think something a bit more wild would probably be better suited.

Dimensions: 19cm tall x 22cm in diameter

Price: R160
