West German Kitchen Scale – SOLD

18 Nov

Vintage Stube kitchen scale

Vintage Stube kitchen scale

I don’t think that this Stube kitchen scale has much age to it, although being made in West Germany it must be at least 15 years old. The stainless steel tray has some marks that won’t come clean and and the enamel paint is a bit scuffed here and there, but on the whole it’s a reasonably clean scale.

Dimensions: 32cm wide x 19cm deep x 9.5cm tall (with tray)

Price: R220

Salter Wall-Mounted Scale – SOLD

Salter wall-mounted scale

Salter wall-mounted scale

These wall-mounted kitchen scales require a bit of commitment (you have to drill into your wall, making the scale a semi-permanent fixture), but personally I think they’re super cool and add a bit of interest to your kitchen decor. In fact I like them so much that we hung one in Justin’s flat, despite the fact that neither of us ever so much as baked a single cookie whilst living there! The idea is that you flip the scale open, weigh your flour, and then remove the tray and pour the flour into your mixing bowl – it’s actually pretty clever! And this is a pretty nice example – it’s yellow (not the pale orange it appears in the photos), and is in reasonably good nick. Both the clear plastic cover and the yellow case have a few scratches, but on the whole I’d say that it’s a pretty clean piece.

Dimensions: Folded up the scale measures 22cm long x 22cm wide x 5cm deep

Price: R150

Note: Mint puts up four new items every weekday. The first post goes up at 07h00, the second at 08h00 and the third and fourth at 08h30. You can subscribe to our daily email which goes out at around 09h00 by clicking on the pink envelope on the right hand side of the blog (more…)

Vintage Bread Bin – SOLD

Retro orange bread bin

Retro orange bread bin

Regardless of your decor scheme I really don’t think you can go wrong with some nice bold colors in your kitchen! Like this fabulous vintage orange bread bin – it would look great anywhere! It’s not in bad nick for its years, but there are some scratches to the paintwork that aren’t visible in the pics (where the cover opens and closes), as well as one spot where the paint has started to lift slightly and a few dings in the aluminum frame. But the wear & tear really isn’t glaring – the thing you really notice is the bright orange enamel!

A very cool bread bin that will be the shining star in any kitchen!

Dimensions: 43cm wide x 26cm deep x 17cm tall

Price: R240

Wall Mounted Kitchen Scale – SOLD

7 Jul

Wall mounted EKS kitchen scale

Wall mounted EKS kitchen scale

I love these wall mounted kitchen scales, so much in fact that we had one permanently mounted in Justin’s old flat – this despite the fact that neither of us bake! This is a particularly nice version with a conversion wheel that allows you to convert from pounds to grams on the fly! The plastic tray clips off really easily so you can measure your flour and then plonk it right into your mixing bowl. There’s a bit of dust trapped behind the plastic face, but otherwise this scale is nice and clean.

A wonderful accessory for all the seriously committed bakers out there!

Dimensions: 24cm long x 22cm wide x 7cm deep

Retro Kitchen Scale – SOLD

Vintage Stube kitchen scale

Vintage Stube kitchen scale

I’m not much of a baker (well truth be told, I don’t bake at all!), but that doesn’t mean that I can’t appreciate a super handsome kitchen scale like this vintage Stube balance scale! Not only is this a seriously good looking scale (I love the white enamel base), but it’s a good quality piece (there’s not much that the German’s don’t do well when it comes to appliances) and it’s in pretty good nick – there’s some minor wear to the enamel, and some light scratches on the metal tray, but otherwise it’s in great condition!

Dimensions: 32cm wide x 19cm deep x 9.5cm tall (with tray)

Price: R260

Hanson Kitchen Scale – SOLD

Hanson kitchen scale

Hanson kitchen scale

I’ve removed the plastic cover from the front of this retro Hanson kitchen scale because it’s quite badly scratched and really detracts from the scale, which I think is pretty darn handsome! But if you’re more practical than me when it comes to kitchen care (I’m pretty sure most people are) and want to make certain that your scale stays nice and clean, you can just clip it back on! One or two of the clips have broken, but it still secures just fine. It also seems to a good job of weighing (which I suppose is kind of important!) – I tested it against an electronic scale that we have and the two were pretty close (within a few mils)!

Note: The scale is made of plastic, not metal.

Dimensions: 23cm tall (incl. tray) x 16cm wide x 13cm deep (measurements of base)

Price: R150
