Vintage Ornate Mirror – SOLD

14 Dec

Vintage ornate mirror

This is one elegant mirror – way too pretty for my house, but in the right home it’s going to look quite beautiful! There’s some minor damage to the frame, but overall both the glass and the frame are in good nick for their years. In fact looking at the condition of the glass, I’d say that it’s probably been replaced at some point. The glass also has a visible polished edge, whereas for its age I’d expect either a bevelled edge, or a piece of glass that fits under the frame, but it’s not the end of the world – it’s still a really striking mirror that wold look great in a guest loo, entrance hall or bedroom.

Dimensions: 88cm tall x 34cm wide (at its widest) x 2.5cm deep

Price: R520

Repurposed Dressing Table Mirror – SOLD

I’m afraid I forgot to measure this mirror before I left home (I’ve had to take a bit of a road trip to sort out my poor pup’s dodgy leg!), but it’s a nice tall mirror that would look wonderful in a dressing room or bathroom. The glass has a beautiful beveled edge and is backed on a solid piece of wood. There are a few scratches here and there and there are a few spots where the silvering has started to wear, but the wear’s not so bad that it detracts fron the beauty of the mirror!

Price: R360

Small Ornate Mirrors – SOLD

21 Oct

Pair of small ornate Italian mirrors

Pair of small ornate Italian mirrors

These ornate Italian mirrors might be a bit on the small side to hang alone on a large wall, but they’d look great as part of a collection of mirrors, or hanging by themselves in a small space, like a guest loo. I had a very similar, but even smaller mirror, hanging in my main bathroom in Durbs. Together with some art deco wall masks and a variety of other mirrors it filled the one corner of our bathroom, and I loved it! So I know how lovely these mirrors can look in the right space!

NB: It looks like the glass has been replaced at some point, and somebody has backed the mirrors in a very shoddy manner – with some brown paper (see pics under ‘more’)! But luckily the glass is secure and you don’t notice anything when they mirrors are hanging.

Dimensions: Each mirror measures 33cm tall x 23cm wide

Price: R220 each

Brass Framed Table Mirror – SOLD

7 Oct

And for our last pair of the day we have this fantastic brass framed mirror! I’ve never come across this shape before, but I’ve sold other variations of this mirror, although I don’t think any of them have been quite as large, or quite as beautiful! The idea behind this mirror is that it can sit either vertically or horizontally, depending I suppose on how much space you have and the style that you’re going for. Personally I prefer it sitting horizontally (as it is in the pic above), but it looks pretty amazing either way! It’s obviously not cheap (although I’ve seen these mirrors selling for as much as R2500 locally!), but I think that this is a quality item that was probably quite pricey when it was first made, plus I think it’s worth the money – it really is so lovely!

Note: The ball joint runs very smoothly – too smoothly! It sometimes takes a little while to level the mirror out when you change its position because of this, but a little patience and you’ll get it sorted.

Dimensions: 46cm wide x 43cm tall x 22cm deep (sitting horizontally)

Price: R790

Pair of Retro Mirrors – SOLD

How fantastic is the shape of these mirrors? They’re not that large (but not that small either), but it’s their shape that makes them so very cool! The one mirror has a slight nick in the glass, but otherwise the glass is pretty much damage free. The backs of the mirrors, however, have taken a bit of a beating over the years, but the wear’s not very noticeable, unless you turn the mirrors around – so when they’re hanging there won’t be much to see.

An über cool pair that would look great hung together or alone.

Dimensions: Each mirror measures 55cm tall x 26cm wide x 2cm deep

Vintage Beveled Mirror – SOLD

20 May

Going on the wear and tear to the moulding I’d say that this mirror’s got a fair bit of age to it! There are one two cracks in the frame, but the most obvious wear is where the moulding has discoloured. Strangely the glass itself is in pretty decent condition – I would have thought that the silvering would have started to peel, but its seems to be completely intact with barely a scratch on it! The glass also has a really lovely beveled edge to it, which helps a bit to detract from the rather sorry state of the frame!

Because of its condition I think that this mirror would work better as part of a collection, but I suppose it all depends on the house – in the right setting a worn out frame might work quite well!

Dimensions: 64cm long x 51.5cm wide x 3cm deep
