Repurposed Dressing Table Mirrors – SOLD

Repurposed dressing table mirrors

Repurposed dressing table mirrors

This pair are another set of mirrors that would originally have hung on either side of a central dressing table mirror, but don’t they look so lovely sitting side-by-side? As usual I got my handy hubby to hang some hooks on the back of the mirrors so they should line up perfectly when hung (provided you’re good at measuring and drilling the holes in the wall!). I love the beveled edge and the shape of the mirrors is so pretty. It’s not quite as detailed as some of the other mirrors that we’ve had for sale, but there’s something very appealing about its curvy shape!

Note: There’s some damage to the wooden backing caused by old borer, but it’s not bad enough to affect the structure of the mirrors (see pics under ‘more’).

Dimensions: 63cm tall x 46.5cm wide x 2.5cm deep (measurements when the mirrors are side-by-side)

Price: R320 for the pair

Pair of repurposed dressing table mirrors

Pair of repurposed dressing table mirrors

I don’t need to tell you that these mirrors have seen better days – I think the photos speak for themselves – but I still think that they’re very beautiful, despite the silvering having deteriorated quite significantly. I like the wide beveled edge, and don’t ask me why, but I think that there’s something quite romantic about the way that the silver has crackled.

I know that some people will think that the mirrors are ready for retirement, but personally I think that we’ve given them a new lease on life – a pair of matching hooks on the back and they’re all ready to be hung on your dining room wall!

Dimensions: Sitting side-by-side the mirrors measure 70cm tall x 42cm wide x 2.5cm deep

Price: R280 for the pair

I love the sweetheart curve at the top of this mirror – isn’t it so pretty? The mirror has a nice beveled edge along the top and bottom of the glass, and isn’t in terrible nick, although it does have a few battle scars – there’s quite a deep scratch along the centre, and a chip on the one corner, but luckily the damage isn’t very noticeable – in fact I only realised it was there when we were cleaning the glass.

An attractive vintage mirror that will look lovely wherever you choose to hang it!

Vintage Beveled Mirror – SOLD

25 Mar

Art deco beveled mirror

Art deco beveled mirror

I bought this art deco beveled mirror for its unusual composition, and it was only when I got it home that I realised that it’s actually a standard art deco shape, but hung vertically instead of horizontally – which somehow completely changes the look! But whoever changed the direction did so years ago: the chain that it hangs on is quite old and rusted (although surprisingly strong!). Personally I like the mirror hanging this way, but it would be easy enough to change back – a screwdriver and five minutes of your time and you’d have it sorted!

Note: This mirror is quite worn. Most notably the silver has started to  go in the one corner, and there’s a ‘chip’ in the glass caused by the clasp attaching the glass to the wood, but fortunately it’s on the underside of the mirror so it’s not that noticeable (you can’t feel it, you can only see it).

Dimensions: 56cm long x 33.5cm wide x 2cm deep

Price: R550

Small Vintage Mirror – SOLD

Vintage mirror

Vintage mirror

This is one of the more unusual shaped vintage mirrors that I’ve come across, but I have to say I really like it! It doesn’t have the beveled edge that you normally see with this style of mirror, but the peculiar shape makes it interesting enough, and the wooden backing and chain give it that great old-school style.

Note: The chain is new, but is similar to what would have been used originally.

Dimensions: 56cm long x 30cm wide x 2cm deep

Wood Framed Mirror – SOLD

5 Mar

Vintage wood-framed mirror

Vintage wood-framed mirror

I bought this wood-framed mirror from a gentleman who used to run a pub many years ago, where this hung on the wall. Looking at the state of the mirror, I’d guess that the pub saw a few wild nights! The frame’s been a bit neglected, and there’s a small chip in the glass, which luckily isn’t really visible as it’s right against the edge. The silvering has also started to tarnish, but personally I don’t mind a bit of wear when it comes to vintage mirrors.

A handsome mirror that would look great hanging in a guest loo, or possibly an entrance hall. Iit’s not that large though, so you need to choose a spot for it carefully, otherwise it might get lost (which would be a real shame!).

Note: The frame has quite a few scratches that aren’t visible in the photos.

Dimensions: 47cm in diameter x 2cm deep

Price: R280
