Retro Ceramic Cruet Set – SOLD

17 Dec

Retro cruet set

Retro cruet set

I think this is has to the coolest cruet set I’ve ever been lucky enough to find! I think it probably looks red in the photos, but in reality it’s a nice bright orange, with a brass coloured metal frame. I suspect that the orange has been painted on, as opposed to glazed, which means that the colour won’t be quite as hard wearing, but with something this special you should show a bit of extra care anyway!

A very cool salt, pepper and mustard set in near mint condition!

NB: Mint is closing for the holidays tomorrow and for our final blog post we’re having a “Make Me a Cheeky Offer” sale! Have a look through the ‘Still for Sale‘ items from the 25th November or before and see if there’s anything that you’d be interested in making an offer on. Read tomorrow’s blog post for all the details of how it’ll work……

Pair of Vintage Flasks – SOLD

8 Dec

Pair of vintage flasks

Pair of vintage flasks

How pretty are these vintage flasks? So much prettier than the thermoses you can buy today! I love the blue and gold aluminium, and the pale bluey-green lid on the gold thermos that of course doubles as a cup. Given their age – I’d guess that that they date to sometime in the 1950s/’60s – it’s not surprising that there are some signs of wear & tear, although on the whole I think that they’re pretty clean. The most noticeable wear is to the stoppers, but luckily you don’t see the wear until you remove the lids.

A fun, but functional pair of flasks just perfect for a summer picnic!

Dimensions: Blue flask – 27cm tall x 7.5cm in diameter; Gold flask – 25.5cm tall x 7.5cm in diameter

Price: R130 each

Retro Punch and Stapler – SOLD

7 Dec

Retro punch & stapler

Retro punch & stapler

How cool is this Rexel stapler and punch?! They’re not a matching pair, although I did buy them together, and I think the colours looks  smashing sitting side by side! Both of them are in good working order, with minimal signs of wear, and while neither of them are heavy-duty, they’re probably better quality than most of the stationery that we buy today – the number of times that I’ve wanted to throw a jammed stapler against a wall, I can’t tell you!

Dimensions: Stapler – 18cm long x 4cm wide x 5.5cm tall; Punch – 11.5cm long x 9.5cm wide x 7cm tall

Price: R120 each

Wooden Paper Trays – SOLD

4 Dec

Wooden paper trays

Wooden paper trays

I’ve always loved these wooden paper trays, so much so that I nicked the one that my dad had in his office and took it home with me! They’re just so much more stylish than the plastic versions, and aside from their good looks they’re also great for organising all those odd slips of paper that you haven’t got round to filing yet! We use ours to hold our spare printer paper – just a slightly neater way to store the paper than having it flop out of its paper packet. Probably a bit unnecessary, but like I said, I really like these trays!

Note: The trays have some minor wear & tear (see pics under ‘more’), but on the whole they’re in fairly decent nick.

Dimensions: Each tray measures 40cm long x 27cm wide x 7cm deep

Price: R150 each

Collection of Vintage Tins – SOLD

3 Dec

Collection of vintage tins

Collection of vintage tins

I’m carrying on with my Christmas tin idea with these great vintage biscuit tins – aren’t they pretty cool? I particularly like the round PBC tin that’s covered in illustrations of African wildlife – I don’t think I’ve seen a tin quite like this before? The Carr & Co biscuit tin is also quite unusual – it’s not that common to see cartoon drawings on a vintage tin, especially not super cool drawings like these! The Baker’s ballerina tin is probably more what you’d expect from a vintage tin, but there’s still something quite beautiful about it!

A quirky collection of biscuit tins – now all you need are the biscuits and you’re good to go!

P.S. All of the tins have some small bit of damage, but it’s pretty hard to come by a vintage tin in perfect nick, plus the tins are definitely in good enough nick to carry on using.

Dimensions & Prices:

  • Carr & Co cartoon biscuit tin – R80; 22cm long x 14cm wide x 6cm tall
  • Round animal tin – R110; 17.5cm tall x 19cm in diameter
  • Bakers ballerina biscuit tin – R95; 26cm long x 18cm wide x 7.5cm tall

Retro Flower Power Tray – SOLD

30 Nov

Retro Worcester Ware tray

Retro Worcester Ware tray

If I hadn’t recently read about Worcester Ware when I was researching those oriental placemats a few weeks back, I might have thought that this metal drinks tray was new – it’s in such good nick that it could easily pass as a modern piece! But when I saw the label on the back of this crazy flower-power tray I immediately recognised the name. I suppose the design of the label is also a bit of a giveaway and there are some scratches on the underside of the tray, but it definitely doesn’t look like it’s anywhere near 50 years old, which is how old I think it probably is!

Dimensions: 30cm in diameter x 3.5cm deep

Price: R140
