Stainless Steel Jug – SOLD

10 Nov

Stainless steel jug

Stainless steel jug

This water jug has a definite art deco feel to it, but unusually it’s made of stainless steel – not a material that you’d expect for something from the art deco era. Typically a deco jug would be made of chrome or silver-plate, so I’m not convinced that the jug has any real age to it, but it’s still a lovely design and large enough to be able to use at your dinner table – you could probably get a good five or six glasses of water out of it.

A stylish water jug in excellent condition.

Dimensions: 21cm tall x 13cm in diameter (at its widest)

Price: R160

Hand-blown Glass Vase – SOLD

16 Oct

Hand-blown glass vase

Hand-blown glass vase

I’m always a bit wary when I buy glass because I just don’t know enough, but over time you get a sense for things, and by asking questions you can also get an idea of whether something’s a Mr Price special in disguise or a nice piece of vintage art glass! This vase had me a bit stuck though because while it’s clearly hand-blown, it’s also very naively produced? I’m not sure whether the lack of finesse is down to the skills of the person who made it, or whether it was intended to look that way? But after chatting to the seller I was convinced at least that it has a bit of age to it – she was given it by her grandmother ten years ago, so it’s quite likely that it’s a vintage piece of glass that’s just been well looked after (there’s very little wear to the base). Regardless it’s a very handsome piece that will make a fine a edition to a collection of glass vases!

Dimensions: 30cm tall x 11.5cm in diameter (at its widest)

Copper Plated Water Jug – SOLD

15 Oct

Copper plated jug

Copper plated jug

I love the ornate detail on this copper plated water jug. It has a bit of an art nouveau or arts & crafts feel to it, and unusually the jug has been plated in copper as opposed to silver. Sadly though the plating is very badly worn, so the jug is almost half silver and half copper – an interesting effect! The lip of the jug is also a bit bent out of shape, and the inside of the jug is quite tarnished, although I still think it’s functional as a jug, but if you’re a bit wary you cold always use it as a vase for flowers – we used a few of these old jugs as vases for our wedding and they looked glorious!

Note: This jug isn’t as large as some of these jugs are – please pay attention to the dimensions below.

Dimensions: 20cm tall x 13cm in diameter (at its widest)

Price: R170

Amber Glass Jug – SOLD

14 Oct

Amber glass jug

Amber glass jug

There’s nothing fancy about this vintage amber water jug, but it has a lovely shape to it, and for the most part is in good condition. There are some scratches here and there, but that’s to be expected given its age – at a guess I’d say that this jug must be in the region of fifty years old.

A practical and attractive jug that I’m sure you’ll get plenty of use out of.

Note: The glass is slightly more yellow than it appears in the photos.

Dimensions: 13cm tall x 15cm in diameter (at its widest)

Price: R120

Small Retro Glass Vase – SOLD

9 Oct

Small retro green glass vase

Small retro green glass vase

This isn’t the largest vase, or the fanciest, but I think it’s pretty good looking – a very handsome piece! I really like the ridged glass and the deep green (almost black) colour of the glass. There are one or two fleabite chips along the rim of the vase, but they’re barely noticeable.

A very plain, but very attractive piece of glass.

Dimensions: 17cm tall x 12cm wide x 6.5cm deep

Vintage Boat Vase – SOLD

9 Oct

Vintage boat vase

Vintage boat vase

There’s no maker’s mark on this vintage boat vase, which is surprising because it’s actually better made than a lot of these vases are. I know it’s a bit crazy, but I really like the texture of the vase – it almost looks like a pice of coral? The base of the vase has a bit of wear, but otherwise it’s a nice, clean piece!
