Retro Kathie Winkel Coffee Pot – SOLD

10 Dec

Retro Kathie Winkle coffee pot

Retro Kathie Winkle coffee pot

I love everything about this Kathie Winkle coffee pot designed for James Broadhurst & Sons in 1971. I love the fact that it’s in such great nick, that the colours are still so bright, including the white porcelain body of the coffee pot, and of course I love that fabulous 70’s Roulette pattern! So, so cool! I even love the maker’s stamp – I think I’ve mentioned this before – the Kathie Winkle backstamp is super attractive! The only issue, and it’s a minor one, is that the lid is ever so slightly wobbly. It’s definitely the original lid, but it doesn’t fit the coffee pot perfectly. There’s no risk of it falling off (fortunately it’s a nice deep lid), but it does wobble a wee bit…..

P.S. As much as I love this coffee pot, there’s another dealer who thinks even more of it than I do – someone is selling this exact coffee pot on eBay for nearly R2000 – but I have to say that they’re probably short a few marbles!

Dimensions: 22cm tall x 13cm in diameter

Price: R220

Pair of Le Creuset Saucepans – SOLD

Pair of Le Creuset saucepans

Pair of Le Creuset saucepans

I know brown’s not the most exciting of colours, but when the bottom of the saucepan reads Le Creuset you suddenly become a lot less fussy about whether the colour goes with your kitchen decor scheme! And on top of the fact that these saucepan’s are made by one of the world’s most famous names in cookware, they’re also in pretty decent nick for their years! The slightly larger saucepan (the one with the wooden handle and pouring spout) is slightly stained, but you only really notice the wear when you compare it to the other saucepan, which is particularly clean. And even though these aren’t the most attractive of Le Creuset pots, they still sell for a fair whack – the saucepan with the wooden handle can sell for as much as R1100 online (madness!!).

Dimensions: Saucepan with wooden handle – 18cm in diameter x 11cm high (with lid on); Saucepan with metal handle – 16cm in diameter x 10cm tall (with lid on)

Price: Saucepan with wooden handle – R290; Saucepan with metal handle- R270

Retro Cake Forks – SOLD

Retro forks and cake lifter

Retro forks and cake lifter

These cake forks are crazy retro! The box, which is a bit worse for wear, is almost too retro, but the forks themselves are just great! I love the design that’s embossed on the handles, and of course it’s always nice when a set’s complete and in mint condition.

Dimensions: Cake forks- 14.5cm long; Cake lifter – 26cm long

Price: R140

Guzzini Ice Bucket – SOLD

19 Nov

Guzzini 'Amanda' ice bucket

Guzzini ‘Amanda’ ice bucket

Designed by Ambrogio Pozzi in the late 1970s the ‘Amanda‘ ice bucket is a Guzzini classic! There’s nothing really fancy about it, but something about the shape is very satisfying, and the clean white plastic works well with the plastic coated silver handle. Unfortunately this particular example is a little worse for wear – although the wear’s not particularly noticeable, the plastic is quite scratched, and the Guzzini maker’s mark has largely worn off the top of the ice bucket. But it still has it’s plastic inner, and should do a fine job of keeping your ice nice and cold – just in time for the festive season and all those cocktail parties (I make us sound very glamorous don’t I?!).

Dimensions: 17cm tall x 17cm wide

Corning Ware Bread Pan – SOLD

17 Nov

Corning Ware bread pan

Corning Ware bread pan

In all my years of hunting I think this is only the second time that I’ve come across one of these Corning Ware loaf pans, so I have to presume there aren’t too many of them out there! This version is part of the ‘Spice of Life’ series, with that great ’70s style design (the pattern was first introduced in 1972). There are a few scratches on the handles, but otherwise this dish is in great condition – because Corning Ware is made from such a tough material, their dishes tend to wear very well, even after years of use!

Dimensions: 27cm long x 13.5cm wide x 8.5cm deep

Price: R150

Scandinavian Art Glass Vase – SOLD

17 Nov

Retro Riihimaki vase by Tamara Aladin, Design no. 1376

Retro Riihimaki vase by Tamara Aladin, Design no. 1376

Founded in 1910 Riihimaki were at one stage the largest glass manufacturers in Finland. Over the eighty odd years that the company was in existence Riihimaki produced some seriously beautiful glass, including this wonderfully simple bamboo-inspired vase, Design no. 1376. The vase was designed by Tamara Aladin who joined the company in 1959, and produced this design in 1970. Some 45 years later and the vase still has such a contemporary edge to it, as do most of the Riihimaki pieces that I’ve researched.

A timeless piece of glass that would look fantastic in a contemporary setting.

NB: Please pay attention to the dimensions below – this is not a large vase.

Dimensions: 25cm tall x 10cm in diameter (at its widest)

Price: R150
