Everhot Coffee Pot – SOLD

Art Deco Everhot coffee pot

Art Deco Everhot coffee pot

I’m a big fan of all the Everhot tea and coffee pots that you get, but I have a special place in my heart for the ones with the beaten metal covers – they’re just that much more bling! This is a slightly confusing coffee pot because the ceramic pot is marked ‘Everhot’, but the metal cover has a ‘Stay-hot‘ maker’s mark on its base – perhaps the two names were interchangeable? The clasp on the cover is bit off-centre, and the cover itself is slightly warped in places, but not so that it’s terribly noticeable. The ceramic inner is in good nick for the most part, especially compared to a lot of these art deco coffee pots, but there is a small amount of crazing along its base. And of course the felt lining is pretty worn – unfortunately that’s nearly always the case.

A super handsome coffee pot that would make a fabulous addition to a collection of art deco tea and coffee pots!

Ever-Hot Style Teapot – SOLD

8 Aug

Ever-Hot style teapot

Ever-Hot style teapot

It’s not that clear from the photos, but the metal cover on this Ever-hot style teapot is made from aluminium, as opposed to the more traditional chrome. I have to say I probably prefer the chrome versions, which are bit shinier, but this teapot has something special about it to make up for that – it has a metal strainer that sits inside the teapot to catch your tea leaves. I’ve seen versions of these online, and of course you get the modern glass versions that are very cool, but this is the first time that I’ve been lucky enough to find one of these vintage ceramic versions! I know that it’s just a simple piece of metal, but it makes all the difference and allows for a completely different tea-drinking experience!

Note: There’s some wear to the aluminium cover – please see pics below.

Ever-Hot Style Teapot – SOLD

Ever-hot style teapot

Ever-hot style teapot

I’m always very happy when I find one of these Ever-hot style teapots! Not only are they lovely to look at (they really are!), but they also make sense – even in Durbs a pot of tea cools really quickly in winter, and as a tea drinker I’m most upset when the cup of tea that I’m paying good money for is lukewarm! Honestly, what happened to good old tea-cosys! I understand why people might not want want to use the old knitted types (although they can be very sweet), but why wouldn’t you want to use something as beautiful as this! And while the felt lining might be a little worn, it’s not doing that badly considering it’s probably in the region of 60 years old!

Ever-Hot Coffee Set – SOLD

15 Apr

Ever-Hot coffee set

Ever-Hot coffee set

I don’t think that this milk jug and sugar bowl are actually part of the same set as the Ever-Hot coffee pot, although I did buy them from the same place and they’re definitely from the same art deco era. Given that they’re probably in the region of 70 years old, I don’t think that any of these pieces are doing too badly, although the chrome cover for the coffee pot is a bit scratched, and the inside of the milk jug and sugar bowl are quite tarnished. But the beautiful bakelite handles are in good nick, as is the actual coffee pot – often these ceramic pots are very badly crazed, but this one’s relatively clean.

A very handsome and sought-after design, this set should make any lover of art deco very happy indeed!

Dimensions: Coffee pot – 22cm tall x 12.5cm in diameter; Milk jug – 6.5cm tall x 9cm in diameter; Sugar bowl – 6.5cm tall x 9cm in diameter

Price: Coffee pot – R160; Milk jug & sugar bowl – R120 for the pair/R260 for the set

Vintage Heatmaster Teapot – SOLD

Vintage Heatmaster teapot

Vintage Heatmaster teapot

This is the first time that I’ve ever come across one of these ‘Everhot-style’ teapots with a hand-painted cover. If it wasn’t so expertly executed I’d suspect that someone had decorated the cover themselves, but I think that it’s too good a job to have been done at home, plus I’ve seen other painted versions online that were made by the same company, Heatmaster. The teapot (although now that I look at the shape, I think it might actually be a coffee pot!) is a bit stained on the inside, but that’s to be expected for its age, which I’d guess to be around 60-70 years old. The outside cover also has  bit of wear, but for the most part it’s in decent nick, and the colours are still nice and bright, so it makes quite an impact.

An unusual coffee pot (or teapot – who knows!) that would make a great addition to a collection.

Copper Everhot Teapot – SOLD

19 Feb

Copper Everhot-style teapot

Copper Everhot-style teapot

I’ve always loved Everhot* pots, and a copper Everhot-style coffee pot is even more special! I’ve only ever come across one set of the copper version before, so I think that they’re probably fairly rare. The copper is a bit marked from being left on the top of someone’s kitchen cupboard for yonks, but it’s still very attractive, and a nice change from the more common (but also quite beautiful) chrome versions.

* Everhot pots were designed to keep your tea or coffee nice and toasty with a built-in tea cosy that attached to the metal cover – very forward thinking design for it’s time I’m sure!

Dimensions: 19cm tall x 12.5cm in diameter
