Retro General Electric Coffee Percolator – SOLD

General Electric Poly-Brew coffee percolator

General Electric Poly-Brew coffee percolator

It may be made out of plastic, but I’ve always loved the style of this retro General Electric ‘Poly-Brew’ percolator!  The shape is so retro, as is the pattern that’s etched into the front of the coffee machine. The inside of the pot is stained from years of use, and there’s a scratch on the handle, but on the whole it’s still a fine looking coffee pot in good working order!

Dimensions: 26cm tall x 13cm in diameter

General Electric Kettle – SOLD

General Electric kettle

General Electric kettle

I had to stop myself from jumping up and down with excitement when I spotted this vintage General Electric kettle the other day! In all my years of kettle hunting I’ve never seen a white version of this kettle – as if the plain old black one wasn’t cool enough, they had to go and make one in white (can you tell that I’m a little bit excited?)! The body of the kettle is nice and shiny, and we’ve rinsed the inside with spirit of salts so it’s clean enough to use, but the cord is a bit sad looking. It looks like someone may have left it sitting on a stove as the rubber is melted in places, revealing the plastic coated wires inside. But I asked Justin to have a look at the cord and he says that it’s completely safe – none of the actual wires are exposed – it just doesn’t look that nice. But luckily the kettle itself more than makes up for it in its good looks – personally I think it’ll beat any modern kettle hands down in the style department!

General Electric Kettle – SOLD

Vintage General Electric kettle

Vintage General Electric kettle

Have I told you how much I love kettles (I know I have!), but I seriously do L-O-V-E vintage kettles! They’re just so beautiful, especially compared to those awful plastic kettles you see nowadays (apologies to anyone who has one!). I’ll take a vintage kettle over a modern one any day, even when it has a few dings like this lovely General Electric version. Someone’s given it a good bash on the one side, and the cord’s also a bit tired looking, but it still works just fine, and even in this rather sorry state I think it’s rather special!

Note: We’ve cleaned the inside of the kettle with spirit of salts, so it’s free of limescale.

General Electric Kettle – SOLD

Retro General Electric kettle

Retro General Electric kettle

Have I mentioned how much I love kettles? Maybe once or twice already? And this retro General Electric kettle is a particularly beautiful example, with its arching handle and black and chrome finish. And the thing that’s really special about it can’t really been seen in the photos – it’s an oval shape, as opposed to the more traditional round ball. I L-O-V-E it! But because of its age it has a bit of wear & tear – there’s a small piece of the handle missing, and the chrome finish is a bit worn in places, as is the black painted base. But I still think that it’s a seriously handsome kettle – certainly one that would rival any modern kettle design-wise!

Snackwich-Cum-Waffle Maker – SOLD

24 Apr

Vintage GE snackwich/waffle machine

Vintage snackwich/waffle machine

I think that this snackwich-cum-waffle maker probably dates to more or less the same period as today’s Pineware bread slicer – they both have a serious Fifties vibe to them don’t they, although they’re probably a little bit later than that. There are some peculiar marks on the front and the sides of the snackwich machine – it almost looks like an oil spill if you know what I mean? Unfortunately the marks won’t come clean, and there are also a few scratches near the handles, but the snackwich-slash-waffle plates are pretty clean – in fact I don’t think that this machine’s been used very much at all, it’s definitely way cleaner than 90% of the snackwich machines that I come across!

Note: I’m pretty sure that the heat gauge is no longer functional, but it still looks great!

General Electric Fan Heater – SOLD

10 Apr

General Electric fan heater

General Electric fan heater

Don’t you just love the uber modern design of this retro General Electric fan heater – seriously, in its day it must have been absolutely mad! I just love the angles of the heater, and how it’s perched on those slim chrome legs. It’s a pretty small piece so would only really be good for heating your tootsies, or a small room, but who cares about such practicalities when you’re talking about something this good looking!

Note: There is some wear to the heater – please look at pictures under ‘more’.
