Vintage Hamilton Beach mixer

When it comes to vintage mixers you can’t really beat the Hamilton Beach! First patented in 1938, these machines were built to last – and to look good – all these years later and this is still considered a very handsome kitchen appliance! The paintwork on this model is a bit worn, but that’s to be expected, and on the plus side the motor sounds strong and the machine still has both of its pyrex bowls.

A classic machine in good condition for its years. A wonderful Christmas present for any aspiring bakers out there!

P.S. An interesting aside: HB was founded in April 1910 by inventor Frederick J. Osius, but Osius didn’t like his own name, so the company took its name from two men that Osius hired, Louis Hamilton and Chester Beach. He hired Hamilton as his advertising manager, and Beach to work as a mechanic.  Osius paid Hamilton and Beach $1000 each for the right to use their names, and I think it was a great marketing move – I’ve always love the name ‘Hamilton Beach’!

These pyrex mixings bowls would originally have been sold with a Hamilton Beach mixer, and are a great example of the quality that you used to see back in the day. These were just accessories, but look how beautifully they were designed, and consider the quality of the materials they used that have allowed these bowls to remain practically unscathed after sixty odd year of use. I think you’d struggle to find something made today (that doesn’t require you to bond your house to buy it) that’s going to look this good in sixty years time!

Price: R18o for the pair

Hamilton Beach Mixette – SOLD

Hamilton Beach Mixette

Hamilton Beach Mixette

You can’t help but love this vintage 1950s Hamilton Beach Mixette, and clearly whoever owned it previously felt the same way – they did a great job of looking after it! They even managed to hold onto the original box! Granted the box is in pretty bad shape, but it definitely shows that the machine’s been well cared for. The paintwork on the control dial has worn away, but the super cool Hamilton Beach logo is still very visible, and the rest of the paintwork seems in good nick.

A fantastic piece of classic vintage kitchenalia in good working order.

Dimensions: 15cm long x 7cm wide x 25cm tall (incl beaters)

Hamilton Beach Mixing Bowls – SOLD

There’s something really lovely about Hamilton Beach mixing bowls, and these ones are even lovelier than usual because they’re in such good nick! There’s some minor wear to the rims, and a few scratch marks on the inside of the bowls (caused by stirring), but otherwise they’re very clean, especially considering their age.

A great gift for any aspiring bakers out there – although I suppose they could also double as salad bowls, so they’d be perfect for anyone with their own home.

Dimensions: Large bowl – 22cm in diameter x 12cm tall; Small bowl – 16cm in diameter x 11cm tall

Pair of Hamilton Beach mixing bowls

Pair of Hamilton Beach mixing bowls

It’s quite unusual to find a pair of vintage mixing bowls together – more often than not you’ll find one without the other – so I was very happy to come across these pyrex Hamilton Beach bowls that would originally have been sold with one of their fantastic mixers (I do so love vintage HB mixers!). Sadly they’re not the ribbed versions, but they still have a really nice shape to them (particularly the smaller bowl with the pouring spout), and are in good nick. A practical hard-working pair that are sure to come in handy in a busy family kitchen.

Vintage Hamilton Beach Mixer – SOLD

Vintage Model K Hamilton Beach mixer

Vintage Hamilton Beach mixer

This vintage Hamilton Beach mixer might look a little worse for wear, but according to our resident expert the motor is nice and strong – in fact Justin seems to think that the motor on this HB mixer is probably in better nick than any of the other vintage mixers I’ve sold to date! Sadly though, there are some cosmetic issues – obviously the paint work is quite worn, and then there’s the fact that the turntable where the bowls sit is chipped, but fortunately with the bowls sitting in place you can’t really see this damage. On the plus side, it has the most beautiful base (don’t you just love that fan-style art deco design?), both of its original bowls and an instruction and recipe booklet (albeit for a later model). The larger of the two bowls is quite marked on the inside base, but there are no actual chips or cracks in either of the bowls, so structurally they’re fine.

A beautifully designed kitchen appliance that was designed to last!

Dimensions: 32cm long x 18cm wide x 35cm tall; Large bowl – 12cm tall x 22cm in diameter: Small bowl – 12cm tall x 16cm in diameter

Price: R490
