Kenwood Chef – SOLD

Kenwood Chef

Kenwood Chef

If I’d had to hazard a guess I would have said that this Kenwood Chef was probably produced sometime during the 1970s, but it turns out that the A701 was manufactured between 1960 and 1962, making this model just over 50 years old! The A701A which was produced from 1962 until 1976 looks very similar to this earlier model, so it’s easy to mistake the two, but the earlier version is easy to spot by its planetary hub mixer tool (the metal piece which the various beaters attach to) which is larger and more chunky than the later model.

In the course of my travels I come across a fair amount of these machines, but I’ve been burnt in the past so I very seldom buy them. But this version was just too tempting – not only is it pretty clean (especially given its age), but it also had its original blender which is very rare indeed! So not only are you buying a world-class  mixer here, but a great blender too! And the blender was in its original box which is a sure sign that the machine was well-looked after. In addition it also has three different beater attachments (including the famous K beater), and its original stainless steel mixing bowl.

This is a great example of one of the world’s most famous kitchen appliances, which will hopefully keep you in cupcakes for years to come!

Dimensions: The machine measures 30cm tall x 10cm wide x 35cm long

Price: R600

Kenwood Toaster – SOLD

Kenwood toaster

Kenwood toaster

I wouldn’t ordinarily buy something with such obvious wear, but sometimes a design is just too cool to pass up! The cut-away side panel on this retro Kenwood toaster just does it for me! And I love that chunky control dial that doubles as a lever for pushing the toast up and down – it’s just fantastic! Plus, aside from the one patch where the metal has corroded (and some scratches below that where someone’s down a bit of a job with a scourer), the toaster’s in pretty good nick, and it seems to work fine. I hope someone out there shares my passion for this piece and gives it a good home (otherwise I might be tempted to toss my perfectly good toaster in the bin!).

Dimensions: 27cm long x 12cm wide x 17cm high

Price: R160

Collection of Pyrex Bowls – SOLD

Collection of white pyrex bowls

Collection of white pyrex bowls

These photos don’t do justice to these lovely pyrex bowls – I didn’t realise when I took the pics how blurry they were! The wide rimmed bowl is from the Federal Glass Company, and is the first bowl that I’ve found from this American manufacturer. I think its shape is ideally suited for salad. I love the shape of the little Glasbake bowl that would originally have belonged to a Sunbeam mixer. I think that this bowl dates to the late ’50s. The Kenwood mixing bowl is probably the newest of the bowls, and the one in the worst nick (although still not bad). It has a chip in the rim, and some scratch marks on the inside base. Clean, simple and practical bowls perfect for everyday use.

Dimensions: Federal Glass Co – 23cm in diameter x 12cm tall; Glasbake Sunbeam – 16cm in diameter x 11cm tall; Kenwood – 18cm in diameter x 13.5cm tall

Price: Federal Glass Co – R90   SOLD; Glasbake Sunbeam – R65   SOLD; Kenwood – R70

Kenwood Chef Model A701A

Kenwood Chef Model A701A

As with most old Kenwoods, this machine’s been put to good use in its time. Somone’s given it a bit of a naive facelift by re-painting the area where the bowl sits, and the Kenwood badge has somehow been melted on the edge. It’s also missing a blue button on the top surface, which I have to be honest does upset me a wee bit! But I suppose for a machine that’s hitting 40 it’s not in too bad a shape! My boyfriend and I made delicious brownies in it the other day using the famous K hook and it worked like a bomb!

Kenwood Mini Handmixer – SOLD

Kenwood Mini Handmixer

Kenwood Mini Handmixer

This Kenwood mini handmixer has taken a bit of a beating over the years (no pun intended – I promise!), but the classic ’70s orange is still nice and bright and the motor sounds fine. The plastic is a bit scratched, but the wear and tear doesn’t detract too much from its cool retro look. A handy kitchen accessory from a trusted household name.

Dimensions: The base measures 17cm long x 9cm wide x 12cm high

Kenwood Mixing Bowl – SOLD

Kenwood pyrex mixing bowl

Kenwood pyrex mixing bowl

First off I must apologise for the poor quality of today’s pics, and the lack of matchbox (for relative size). I was rushing to pick up my beloved dog, Scout, from the vet and was stressed for time!

This pyrex Kenwood mixing bowl has a great shape to it and is in reasonably good nick. There is a minor chip in the rim, and some feint marks on the inside of the bowl, but otherwise it’s fairly clean. It’s a nice decent size, and would definitely come in handy in the kitchen, plus it’s clean lines and milk glass finish means it’ll look good at the same time.

Dimensions: 13.5cm tall x 18cm in diameter
