Pair of Le Creuset Saucepans – SOLD

Pair of Le Creuset saucepans

Pair of Le Creuset saucepans

I know brown’s not the most exciting of colours, but when the bottom of the saucepan reads Le Creuset you suddenly become a lot less fussy about whether the colour goes with your kitchen decor scheme! And on top of the fact that these saucepan’s are made by one of the world’s most famous names in cookware, they’re also in pretty decent nick for their years! The slightly larger saucepan (the one with the wooden handle and pouring spout) is slightly stained, but you only really notice the wear when you compare it to the other saucepan, which is particularly clean. And even though these aren’t the most attractive of Le Creuset pots, they still sell for a fair whack – the saucepan with the wooden handle can sell for as much as R1100 online (madness!!).

Dimensions: Saucepan with wooden handle – 18cm in diameter x 11cm high (with lid on); Saucepan with metal handle – 16cm in diameter x 10cm tall (with lid on)

Price: Saucepan with wooden handle – R290; Saucepan with metal handle- R270

Le Creuset Oven Dish – SOLD

5 Oct

Vintage Le Creuset oven dish

Vintage Le Creuset oven dish

How fantastic is this lime green vintage Le Creuset pot?! I didn’t even know Le Creuset did anything in this crazy colour, but obviously they did and still do! The outside of this pot is pretty clean, but the inside is quite stained – but given that most sites date this pot to the 1950s, it’s not doing too badly! Plus even though it’s quite marked, it doesn’t seem to have lost all its gloss – generally when enamel becomes very matte, it also becomes much harder to clean, and I don’t think this has happened here.

A very cool and fantastic quality piece of cookware, that provided it’s looked after well, should last you for years and years to come!

Note: The pot is a bright apple (almost acid) green, but definitely not yellow – I think it looks more yellow in the photos than it is.

Dimensions: 30cm long x 20.5cm wide x 12cm tall (with lid on)

Price: R390

Retro Cast-Iron Pan – SOLD

6 Feb

Retro Belgian cast-iron pan

Retro Belgian cast-iron pan

I can’t tell you how much I love this retro cast-iron Descoware pan! Aside from the fact that it’s a top quality piece of cookware – Descoware were bought out by Le Creuset, who took over their signature ‘flame’ pattern that they’re now so famous for – it also has the most fantastic design on it! The bottom of the pan is simply stamped ‘FE Belgium’, but the design is signed, ‘Markley’, for Robert Markley who produced the design for Descoware in the 1960s. I haven’t found much information on Robert Markley, but I did read a fantastic series of comments between his granddaughter and a collector of Descoware. She said that hew grandad wasn’t actually an artist (you could have fooled me!), but he loved to paint and do chalk drawings. Fascinating!

An excellent quality pan with one of the coolest designs I’ve seen!

Note: There is some wear to the enamel coating on the inside of the pan (see pics under ‘more’).

Dimensions: 26cm in diameter x 5.5cm deep (52cm long incl. handle)

Price: R290

Pair of Belgian Cast-Iron Pans – SOLD

26 Jan

Belgian cast-iron pans

Belgian cast-iron pans

This is a really great quality pair of cast-iron pans! The base of the pans are marked ‘Belgium’, along with the letters ‘FE’ (chemical symbol for iron). There’s no maker’s mark per se, but looking at the style and quality of the pans, I’d guess that these pans are from Descoware, a Belgian company who were bought out by Le Creuset in the 1960s. The pans have some light scratches to the white enamel on the inside of the pans, and it looks like one of the handles has been slightly burned at some point, but on the whole the pans are in excellent condition.

An attractive and top quality pair that are well worth the money (especially when you look at the prices of new Le Creuset pans!).

Dimensions: Large pan – 28.5cm in diameter x 6cm deep (excl. lid) x 50cm long (incl. handle); Medium pan – 24.5cm in diameter x 5cm deep (excl. lid) x 47cm long (incl. handle)

Prices: Large pan – R490; Medium pan- R420

Small Cast-Iron Frying Pan – SOLD

19 Nov

Belgium cast-iron frying pan

Belgium cast-iron frying pan

Now I know that this cast-iron frying pan’s a little worse for wear, but it’s a great quality pan and still has plenty of life left in it! Plus we’ve given it a seriously good scrub so even though it may look a bit grubby, it’s clean enough to eat off! The bottom of the pan is stamped FE (symbol for iron) Belgium, which as far as I know is one of the stamps that was used by Descoware. Descoware were bought out by Le Creuset in the 1970s, and are responsible for the great flame design that Le Creuset is so famous for. Julia Child was a big fan of the cookware, and featured it regularly on her cooking show during the 1960s – she supposedly turned her nose up at Le Creuset, believing Descoware to be the superior product (take that Le Creuset!).

Note: There is an odd screw that attaches the handle to the pan. It seems to be completely stable, but I don’t think that it’s original.

Dimensions: 20cm in diameter x 4.5cm deep; 40cm long (incl. handle)

Price: R210

Le Creuset Heritage Skillet – SOLD

8 Oct

Le Creuset Heritage skillet

Le Creuset Heritage skillet

It may seem like a lot to pay for a frying pan, but given that this Le Creuset Heritage skillet sells for around R1300 new, it’s actually a bit of a bargain! And it practically is new! I really can’t see any real signs of use – perhaps the person who bought it is a little like me, mildly retarded in the kitchen, and never actually got round to using it! Whatever the reason, I’m very grateful that it is so clean – it makes for a really nice change!

Dimensions: 25cm in diameter x 4.5cm deep; 53cm long (incl. handle)

Price: R580
