Pineware Swivel Toaster – SOLD

Another fine example of Vicky’s passion for cleaning! Seriously, I’m so impressed with how particular she is – how shiny and bright is this vintage Pineware swivel toaster? Granted, she spent hours cleaning it, but I think the end product is well worth it! There are a few minor marks along the base of the toaster, and someone’s engraved a serial number of sorts into the chrome (presumably this toaster once belonged to a government department or school), but otherwise it’s in pretty darn good nick! Obviously these toasters aren’t practical as their modern counterparts (you have to remember to turn your toast half way through, and it won’t fit all bread sizes), but it’s so good looking that I think it’s we’ll worth the sacrifice!

This vintage Pineware swivel toaster is a testament to Vicky, who cleans for Mint. Vicky can be somewhat of a perfectionist, and it shows with this toaster – I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of these swivel toasters come out so clean! They’re not the easiest things to clean – there’re too many places for grease and crumbs to hide, but Vicky found them all! Bar some scratches to the metal (unfortunately not visible in the photos), and a few spots of dirt behind the element, this toaster really is spotless! Well done Vicks!

NB: Please be aware that the slots which hold the bread fit your standard government-issue bread (just!), but you’ll probably have to cut your crusts off most other breads.

Dimensions: 25cm tall x 20cm in diameter

Price: R300

Pineware Snackwich maker – SOLD

I think if I wasn’t already a little too round I’d probably live off toasted cheese sandwiches! Seriously, there’s not much that makes me happier in life than a cheesy, cardio-inducing hot toasted sarmie! The only problem is that most of the snackwich machines out there are a bit grim – over the years the grease takes its toll, and the end result is something that I wouldn’t be that keen to eat off of! But not this fantastic vintage Pineware snackwich maker! Because of its age there’s some wear to the chrome, but for the most part it’s still nice and shiny, and the inside of the machine looks like it’s barely been used. Plus this is probably my favourite style of snackwich machine – the flat plates produce a great toasted sandwich, the type you got in school tuckshops when I was a kid (do schools even have tuckshops anymore?).

The perfect kitchen appliance for chilly winter afternoon lunches or lazy Sunday evening dinners.

Pineware Snackwich Maker – SOLD

Vintage Pineware snackwich machine

After telling Noks that I was banning myself from buying any more snackwich machines (they take forever to get clean!) I somehow managed to bring two home with me last weekend – I just can’t help myself, I’m drawn to these machines! They’re so good looking (don’t you think?) and they promise to deliver the most tasty treats – especially these large flat iron ones! Plus I like the idea of saving them! They take us hours to clean, but once we’ve got them into a decent state they should have plenty of years left in them (provided their new owners care for them well!).

Note: The metal’s a bit corroded along the hinges (see pics under ‘more’), but they’re still perfectly functional. There are also some scratches and pitting to the chrome coating, which is also visible in the pics.

Retro Pineware Coffee Percolator – SOLD

This retro Pineware coffee percolator is in pretty good nick for its years! There’s a bit of wear to the handle (which I forgot to photograph!) and some fine scratches on the inside of the clear plastic lid, but otherwise this coffee pot’s nice and shiny! I love the design of the spout which only just protrudes from the body of the percolator – it gives it a great retro shape.

A very handsome coffee machine in excellent working order.

Pineware Bread Slicer – SOLD

8 Apr

Vintage Pineware bread slicer

Vintage Pineware bread slicer

It’s always nice to find items in their original packaging, even if the packaging is a little worse for wear! I don’t think that this box is going to last much longer, but I thought I’d photograph it just to give you an idea of how these bread slicers were marketed. Also, another advantage of the bread slicer being stored in its box is that it’s in pretty good nick – the box has protected the metal from corroding, although parts of it still do show signs of wear, albeit very minor compared to most of the slicers that we find.

A classic Pineware bread slicer that if well looked after should last you for years to come!
