Wedgwood Milk, Sugar, Toast and Jam Set – SOLD

18 Aug

Wedgwood 'Mayfield' milk & sugar bowl, jam & toast rack

Wedgwood ‘Mayfield’ milk & sugar bowl, jam & toast rack

This is the very last of the 1960s Wedgwood ‘Mayfield’ dinner service, and as with the rest of the service these pieces are in excellent condition! The lid for the jam pot has a few marks from age, but that’s about it in terms of wear and tear. I know that not many of us use toast racks and jam pots these days (or even milk jugs and sugar bowls for that matter!), but on the odd occasion when you ave guests round, or just feel like being super civilised, then this set will go down a treat!

Dimensions: Milk jug – 9cm tall x 8cm in diameter; Sugar bowl – 6.5cm tall x 9.5cm in diameter; Toast rack – 18cm long x 10cm wide x 6cm tall; Jam pot – 10.5cm tall x 8cm in diameter

Price: Milk jug & sugar bowl – R140 for the pair; Toast rack & jam pot – R160

Note: Mint puts up three new items every weekday. The first post goes up at 07h00, the second at 08h00 and the third at 08h30. You can subscribe to our daily email which goes out at around 09h00 by clicking on the pink envelope on the right hand side of the blog (more…)

Part Wedgwood Dinner Service – SOLD

17 Aug

Part Wedgwood 'Mayfield' dinner service

Part Wedgwood ‘Mayfield’ dinner service

You may remember this beautiful 1960s Wedgwood ‘Mayfield’ pattern from a few months back – we had a number of different pieces for sale? Well this part-dinner service came from the same home, and has been just as well cared for! In fact I don’t think there’s a mark on any of the plates or bowls that can give away their age. The set’s not 100% complete – it doesn’t have soup bowls or any cups and saucers, but the basics are all there – dinner plates, side plates and bowls (cereal/pudding?), plus there are six of everything, which is unusual to find in a set of this age.

A beautifully kept service from one of the world’s leaders in china. A fantastic find for any Wedgwood collectors out there!

P.S. The dinner plates alone sell for around R1500 for a set of six!

Dimensions: Dinner plates – 23.5cm in diameter; Side plates – 18cm in diameter; Bowls – 15.5cm in diameter x 4cm deep

Price: R520 for the set (18 pieces in total)

Note: Mint puts up three new items every weekday. The first post goes up at 07h00, the second at 08h00 and the third at 08h30. You can subscribe to our daily email which goes out at around 09h00 by clicking on the pink envelope on the right hand side of the blog (more…)

Wedgwood Soup Bowls – SOLD

19 May

Wedgwood coupe soup bowls & saucers

Wedgwood coupe soup bowls & saucers

So apparently these are coupe soup bowls – I had to look up dining etiquette to understand that one! Apparently you get seven (yes seven!) different types of soup bowls, with the coupe bowl in the shape of a saucer being designed for informal dining. I’d love to see the formal version of the soup bowl because these beautiful Wedgwood bowls and saucers are probably as formal as my dining experience is ever going to get! It’s a real pity that there are only a pair, and ordinarily I wouldn’t have bought such an incomplete set (I left other pieces of this Mayfield service behind for that reason), but these bowls really spoke to me! They’re just beautiful! And perhaps there’s a couple out there with a passion for soup who don’t mind the informality of the soup coupe bowls!

Dimensions: Bowls – 15cm long x 13cm wide x 5.5cm deep; Saucers – 18cm long x 15cm wide

Price: R120 for the pair

Note: Mint puts up four new items every weekday. The first post goes up at 07h00, the second at 08h00 and the third and fourth at 08h30. You can subscribe to our daily email which goes out at around 09h00 by clicking on the pink envelope on the right hand side of the blog (more…)

1960s Wedgwood Cruet Set – SOLD

18 May

Wedgwood 'Mayfield' salt, pepper & mustard set

Wedgwood ‘Mayfield’ salt, pepper & mustard set

I know that most people use throw-away grinders these days, but how sweet are these little Wedgwood salt and pepper shakers? And the shape of that mustard pot is so cool, and a great design – the extended rim that gives it that unusual shape makes the perfect handle for picking up the little pot! And it’s finished off with that fantastic 60’s-shaped saucer – a really handsome little set! Plus the cellars have their plastic stoppers which are so often missing, so the set’s completely functional. Obviously it means that you need to replace your Himalayan salt and roughly ground peppercorns with some finely ground s&p, but for the odd special occasion I think it’s worth the culinary sacrifice!

Dimensions: Shakers – 6cm tall x 5cm in diameter; Mustard pot – 6cm tall x 6.5cm in diameter; Saucer – 17cm long x 15cm wide

Price: R220 for the set

1960s Wedgwood Jugs – SOLD

13 May

Pair of Wedgwood 'Mayfield' jugs

Pair of Wedgwood ‘Mayfield’ jugs

These beautiful 1960s Wedgwood jugs obviously belong to the same ‘Mayfield‘ dinner service as the pieces that we featured a few weeks back. I’m not quite sure why Helen’s aunt needed two of these jugs, but they do look lovely displayed together and I suppose jugs always come in handy! You can use them for custard at Christmas time (I love me some custard!) or milk for the breakfast table (if you’re very fancy and decant your milk!), or anything really! I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve needed a jug for something or other and have gone hunting in my cupboards only to find that none of my jugs are suitable – the moral: stock up on jugs of all shapes and sizes because you just never know!

Note: Both jugs are in excellent condition, but the one jug does have some very minor manufacturing defects (see pics under ‘more’)

Dimensions: Each jug measures 12cm tall x 9.5cm in diameter

Price: R150 each

Wedgwood Gravy Boat – SOLD

5 May

Wedgwood 'Mayfield' gravy boat & saucer

Wedgwood ‘Mayfield’ gravy boat & saucer

How sweet is this 1960s Wedgwood gravy boat? I love how delicate the Mayfield pattern is how and it contrasts with the very retro shape of the saucer – it gives it a nice edge! And of course it doesn’t hurt matters that Wedgwood is super collectible and that this gravy boat is in near perfect nick. There’s a bit of wear to the underside of the jug, but otherwise there’s not a mark on it – impressive for a piece that’s nearly fifty years old!

Dimensions: Jug – 20cm long x 7.5cm wide x 9.5cm tall; Saucer – 21cm long x 14.5cm wide

Price: R150 (more…)
